Do you love rock stars, forced proximity, and a bit of kink in our romance? πŸ˜‰ If so, you will love Wreck the Halls by Tessa Bailey, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Happened One Summer. Wreck the Halls by Tessa Bailey is a sexy, hilarious standalone holiday rom-com. It’s about the adult children of two former rock stars who team up to convince their estranged mothers to play a Christmas Eve concert. It’s a fun and festive read that will make you laugh, melt, and swoon.

TRIGGER WARNINGS:
  • Parental abandonment recounted
  • Blackmail

The main characters are Melody Gallard and Beat Dawkins, who are both the offspring of music royalty. Melody is the daughter of the lead guitarist of the Steel Birds, a legendary band that broke up decades ago due to a scandalous feud. She is a shy and introverted book restorer who avoids the limelight and lives a quiet life. Beat is the son of the lead singer of the Steel Birds, who inherited his mother’s star quality and charisma. He is a charming and confident man who loves the camera and the attention.

Melody and Beat met once when they were teenagers and felt an instant attraction that they never forgot. But they never saw each other again until a producer offers Beat a lot of money to reunite the Steel Birds for a live tv concert on Christmas Eve. He agrees, because he was being blackmailed by someone for 5 years who knew the secret that could destroy the reputation of his mother and was asking for a lot of money every time. But he also has another motive: to see Melody again. Melody also agrees to help with the reunion, eager to spend time with Beat and help him with whatever crisis made him accept this offer in the first place.

As they embark on a madcap mission to convince their mothers to perform one last show, they face many obstacles and hilarious situations. They have to deal with rock star shenanigans, a 24-hour film crew, brawling Santas, and mobs of adoring fans. They also have to confront their own feelings for each other, which grow stronger and hotter with every encounter. But as Christmas Eve approaches, they also have to face the truth about the past and the secret that tore the band apart.

The Tropes are some of my favorites. THE ELITE ONE-BED TROPE. YES PLS. Also there was Forced Proximity and Secret Relationship.

I rated it 4 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐ because I loved the character development of both Melody and Beat in this book. They both start out as opposites, but they soon realize that they have more in common than they thought. They both have issues. They both have insecurities and dreams that they are afraid to pursue. They both need someone who understands them and supports them.

Another aspect of the book that I liked was the suspense and drama that came from Beat getting blackmailed by someone who knows the secret behind the Steel Birds’ breakup. This added some tension and conflict to the story, and made me wonder who was behind it and what they wanted. It also showed how much Beat cared about his mother, and how he was willing to sacrifice his own happiness and peace for hers.

Beat and Melody’s relation with their parents was also an important part of the book. Beat was close to his parents, their relationship was stable, whereas Melody had complicated and strained relationship with her mother,  They both wanted to reconnect with their mothers, but also Mel felt hurt and resentful by Trina's actions. They both had to overcome their past issues and learn to forgive and understand each other. They both had to find their own identity and voice, apart from their parents’ fame and expectations.

I think the author did a good job of portraying the dynamics and emotions of these relationships, and how they affected the characters’ growth and choices. I think the book also conveyed a message of family and forgiveness, and how sometimes you have to let go of the past and move on with the future.

Melody and Beat are adorable together, with their banter, their support, and their passion. They are both complex and relatable characters who make you root for them. They also have some of the hottest scenes I’ve ever read, with a touch of kink that adds spice to the story. It was the first time I was reading about something like this, and I loved it. Tessa Bailey writes with her signature wit and flair, creating memorable characters and witty dialogue.

Some of my favorite quotes from the book is:

"You’ll never leave my system, Mel. You’re one half of it.”

"Of all the privileges I never feel like I’ve earned, you’re going to be the ultimate one, aren’t you?”

This quote shows how much Beat loves Melody and how he feels connected to her on a deep level. Melody had a crush on him ever since they first met. They both fell for each other but BOYYY!! Beat fell harder. Face First. Head over Heels.

Now, coming to the secondary characters. I loved the tension between the producer and the cameraman, Danielle and Joseph, I really, really wish Tessa writes a book about them. 😫 Not to forget about the mothers, Trina Gallard and Octavia Dawkins, they were amazing.

The only thing that annoyed me about this book was the ending. I felt like it was too rushed and convenient, and it left some loose ends unresolved. I wanted more closure and epilogue for the characters, especially for their mothers. I also wanted more details about the concert and how it went.

But only thing that I loved the most was also the ending. I liked how cute the ending was actually, minus the above. I loved how Beat was willing to give time to Melody no matter how much it was killing him to do so.

Overall, Wreck the Halls by Tessa Bailey is a fun and flirty Christmas romance with a twist that will make you smile, melt your heart, and warm your soul. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves rock stars, forced proximity, and a bit of kink in their romance. You won’t regret it!

And now let me ask you this:

If you could reunite any band for a Christmas concert, which one would it be and why?

Let me know in the comments. πŸ’•
